KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES: “Opening Sequence”
I had worked with Wes Ball on the opening sequence to KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES in November of 2021. When I saw the film nearly two and a half years later I immediately recognized that first shot of the film!
That sequence went through a few versions – originally Wes considered including NOVA from WAR (that’s why you’ll see a human hand in a few frames!) but works much better with Rocket. As does moving the funeral pyre earlier in the sequence because you get the glow of the fire for Maurice’s “Apes Together Strong” gesture. Which is the whole point of storyboarding!!
Happy to have been able to contribute even a small amount to such a beautiful film. No matter how many films I work on, seeing the final product on the big screen is always a thrill! *(Even if I wasn’t given screen credit)
